penmorfa
Once the original gatehouse to the local Manor House, this property holds deep historic significance. Over the years, however, it had been altered repeatedly without clear intent, diluting its character and functionality. The restoration breathes new life into the home, balancing its Victorian charm with the demands of modern seaside living. Inside, an open-plan layout introduces a contemporary flow, while refined traditional detailing pays homage to the home’s heritage. Thoughtful design ensures a seamless connection to the seafront, inviting the rhythm of coastal living into the home year-round.

We commissioned Mattinson Associates to refurbish Penmorfa and make it into a happy welcoming home that was more than simply a comfortable, modern seaside holiday home. We were anxious to retain the period feel and gave Mattinson Associates a brief that allowed them much discretion as we were out of the country for most of the time.
The result has been an absolute joy in every respect and Mattinson Associates’ attention to detail and their understanding of our brief (such as it was!) and wishes have been a very happy experience. We have a wonderfully comfortable home that is modern yet has not lost its sense of history, they have made the most of the exceptional views that Penmorfa enjoys and we are happy that we have a home where we can welcome our children and grand-children and yet when they return to their own homes we feel that we are in a cosy space in spite of having four bathrooms and two cloakrooms. (Very necessary when there are ten of us in the house). I hope that we shall not embark on a similar project again at this stage of our lives but I would not hesitate to ask Mattinson Associates to help us again if we needed to
