Young Designers Award County Press Article
Budding young architects were celebrated alongside professionals at the annual RIBA and IW society design and conservation awards. Youngsters ranging from 6-18 year old's were presented with awards at the Royal Yacht Squadron, Cowes. Presenting the awards, founder of the Young Designers Award, Lindsay Mattinson, said: " This year's brief was received enthusiastically across the Island and judges have been overwhelmed by the range of ideas and the imagination and creativity displayed in the designs - with ideas ranging from a metal dragon to an insect theme park." Each year, the competition has a different brief, always based around an IW landmark. This year, the young designers had to come up with an alternative way to get from the top of Shanklin Cliff to the beach and produce drawings and models of their designs. The brief for 2018 will be announced in September.
