tideview
Tideview was purchased by its owners as a project to fulfil their dream of having a family home where they could fully embrace their passion for sailing. Nestled along the picturesque coastline of the isle of wight, the property had seen better days and was in need of significant renovations to bring it up to modern living standards. The challenge was not only to restore the house but also to reimagine its layout to enhance the flow of space, making it ideal for hosting family and friends while ensuring practicality for their large family.
Mattinson Associates was brought on board to breathe new life into Tideview. The design team proposed raising the roof to add a second floor allowing for 180-degree views of the Solent. This addition would create a spacious, open-plan living area with a large roof terrace for enjoying the views.
To complement the architectural enhancements, the interiors were developed to reflect a timeless coastal aesthetic. Soft hues of blue and white, natural materials, and elegant furnishings were carefully selected to evoke a sense of tranquillity and connection to the surrounding environment. Each room was designed to flow seamlessly into the next, with large windows allowing ample natural light and views of the sea to be part of everyday life.
The outdoor spaces were equally important in the vision for Tideview. The garden and planting schemes were meticulously crafted to include areas for entertaining, as well as secluded spots for quiet reflection.
Throughout the project, Mattinson Associates worked closely with the clients and local planning authorities to ensure that the design not only met the owners' aspirations but also respected the character of the surrounding area and neighbouring properties. This collaborative approach resulted in a home that was not only a sanctuary for the family but also a thoughtful addition to the coastal community.
