The development of rural sites can be contentious. Consequently, we came up with a solution that would fit into the rural setting, without drawing too much attention, yet be appealing to Self-Build buyers and different from stock housing developments seen elsewhere. The brief had to provide scope for variance, yet the rural demographic required a level of uniformity. As a result, we designed a series of farm buildings with barn proportions and narratives. This resulted in a choice of three material palettes that all worked together and would provide individuality to each unit, yet at the same time reading as one overall aesthetic across a variety of different sized houses within the development.
