The Isle of Wight Venus Awards 2016

The Venus awards came to the Isle of Wight for the first time ever this year. The aim was to recognise and celebrate successful and influential business women on the island, who have made a positive contribution in the community. Finalists in the competition were announced at the end of January, after being whittled down from hundreds of nominees. Lindsay Mattinson of Mattinson Associates Ltd. was put through to the finals in the category of Home Based Business. The awards evening was held on Friday 18th March at Cowes Yacht Haven, where we were delighted to see that Lindsay was awarded Home Based Business regional winner, and along with the other regional winners is now through to the national finals of the awards. Undoubtedly Lindsay's work in the community, running a design competition for young designers on the island between the ages of 5-18, helped her secure the win in her category.Lindsay has been running the Young Designers Award from her office for the last four years after founding the competition in 2013, with this year's competition recently drawing to a close after receiving a record number of 400 entries. The competition seeks to provoke conversation and raise awareness about good design & architecture on the island. Lindsay has been talking in school assemblies and running workshops to educate children and young people about the importance of the built environment, as it is particularly important to her to inspire them and encourage the next generation of creative designers. Lindsay's ambition is to take the Young Designers Award competition national, as nothing like it currently exists. You can find out more about the Young Designers Award by visiting:www.youngdesignersaward.com
